Friends and supporters,

Two weeks ago, we marked the one year anniversary of the attack on Jason
Vassell by taking to the streets and marching on UMass. We demanded that
UMass offer reinstatement to Jason and that the University investigate the
racist investigation of the case by the UMass Police Department. In a strong
and impressive show of solidarity, hundreds of supporters from UMass, the
Pioneer Valley, and across the country called in to District Attorney
Scheibel's office demanding that she drop the charges against Jason.

This week, we return to the courthouse, as a judge hears Jason's lawyers'
motion to dismiss the case. This document outlines the entire history of the
case, from Bosse and Bowes' violent and hateful attack on Jason, to the
UMass Police Department's blatant racism in investigating the case (calling
Jason a "donkey" and a "drug dealer"), to the District Attorney's decision
to only bring charges against one of Jason's attackers, and minor charges at
that, while charging Jason with a crime with a possible sentence of 30
years. This motion shows that Jason has been selectively prosecuted based on
his race, and thus could get the case thrown out! (Read the motion:

Now the judge has a chance to put this case on the path to justice. Our
presence will remind the judge that he is accountable to the truth. Equally
important, our presence will increase the pressure on the District Attorney
to be accountable to the values of her community and drop the charges. *Your
