Dear Colleagues,

The Social Justice Mediation Summer Institute is offering a Social Justice
Mediation training twice this upcoming summer (May 26-30 and August 24-28, 2008)
in Amherst, Massachusetts, U.S.A. See http://www.sjmediation.org

This unique approach to mediation is for those individuals interested in
becoming trained in mediation with a social justice perspective. This is a
mediation training designed to explore how identity and power imbalances affect
the development and resolution of conflict. We also challenge traditional
notions of neutrality which operate to enforce and mask inequality. Once
trained in mediation with a social justice perspective, you will never look at
mediation in the same way again.

What Social Justice Mediation Institute participants have said about the
training

“This was an amazing, informative experience that has definitely changed my
practice. I have been in so many mediation experiences that I felt ignored
oppressive dynamics and I feel much more comfortable now incorporating your
model to help with that. Keep up this incredibly important work!”

“Wonderful! Very thoroughly thought-out. I appreciated the balance between
theory and practice.”

“Roleplay practices were great! I learned a ton by actually working through
issues – transitioning from theory to practice. I became more confident in my
mediation skills.”

If you are interested in becoming a mediator, improving your skills, and
critically challenging the standard ways of resolving conflicts through
mediation, you will want to check out the details on the website:
http://www.sjmediation.org

The deadline for the May training is April 26th.
The deadline for the August training is July 24th.

Feel free to pass this info along with the attached flyer to friends,
colleagues, and relevant listserves.
