     HAMPSHIRE/FRANKLIN AFL-CIO INVITES US TO AN INTRO TO THE "SOLIDARITY
ECONOMY"

     Emily Kawano, Executive Director, Center for Popular Economics at UMass
Amherst (www.populareconomics.org) will introduce the Solidarity Economy -
an alternative economic framework that is grounded in solidarity and
cooperation, rather than the pursuit of narrow, individual self-interest. It
promotes social and economic democracy, equity in all dimensions (race,
class, gender, etc), and sustainability. What does a solidarity economy look

     SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE: WHAT'S MISSING IN THE HEALTHCARE DEBATE

Northampton. Single-payer healthcare is genuinely universal, cost effective
and is a proven system. The forum will include short presentation, film

     LEAFLETING BIG Y FOR JUSTICE AT SMITHFIELD
     Noon, Big Y, 136 King St, (Rt. 5), Northampton. Smithfield operates one
of the largest slaughterhouses in Tar Heel NC – a sweatshop where 5500
workers trying to organize have been met by violence. We're asking Big Y to
join the national campaign and stop carrying Tar Heel pork. Stop & Shop,
Shaw's, and Atkins Farms Country Market (Amherst) are on board. See also

     GOOD NEIGHBOR FUND CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF PARTY 
     6-9pm, Amherst Regional High School, 21 Mattoon St, Amherst. A
coalition of Western Mass groups and residents have come together to form
The Good Neighbor Fund, a rapid response system to provide financial
assistance to pay for emergency legal support for immigrants in Western
Mass. Evening of food from local restaurants and music and performances by
students from ARHS will raise the initial money to create this fund.
Performances by Project 2050, Conjunto de Bomba and special guests The
Alchemystics. Food from La Veracruzana, Mi Tierra, Ben & Jerry’s, Bueno y
Sano, and The Sub & Pizza. $5 students, $15 adults. This event is sponsored
by the Alliance to Develop Power (ADP) and Amherst Regional High School
