January 3, 2007 Dear Friends of Nuestras Raices, We are starting the year with an exciting project. A huge (40’ x 80’), state-of-the-art greenhouse has been donated by Chicopee Comp High School. We will be managing the greenhouse in partnership with the Dean Technical High School School to Career Program (just down the street from the farm). Many thanks to Norm LeBlanc, Dean Tech Culinary Instructor, for making this possible! The challenge? We have to dismantle the greenhouse by the end of January. That’s right, we have ONE MONTH to take it down and bring the pieces to the farm for storage (putting it back up will be another project, one we will save for warmer weather). So we are organizing a series of work days to take it down and bring it over to the farm. People of all skill levels are welcome, though of course carpenters, electricians, and plumbers are especially welcome. You, and as many of your friends and contacts as you can organize, will be most welcome and can make a big difference. The work days are: Thursday January 10th 9am-5pmFriday January 11th 9am-5pmSaturday January 12th 9am-2pmThursday January 17th 9am-5pmFriday January 18th 9am-5pmSaturday January 19th 9am-2pm And, if weather or other challenges have slowed us down, a final push: Thursday January 24th 9am-5pmFriday January 25th 9am-5pmSaturday January 26th 9am-2pm Please contact me at (413) 531-2767 or erict at nuestras-raices.org if you can help us out. Make sure to bring VERY warm clothes, we will mostly be workig outside. Hand tools and electric crewguns are also welcome. Your help will make this fantastic resource available to the farmers, youth, and businesses located at our farm site. Thank you, Eric ToensmeierFarm Project Director
