54% of Your Tax Dollar Pays for War -- including the Global War on Terror The War Resisters League has just released its analysis of thePresident’s 2009 budget, which highlights the percentage ofincome tax dollars taxpayers can expect to contribute to thePentagon with their 1040 forms. Taking issue with the administration's budget though, WRLincludes an estimated $200 billion for the wars in Iraq andAfghanistan in the pie chart figures. The Bush budget, onceagain, blatantly refuses to include war spending in the budgetadding in only a $38 billion 'allowance' for future requests forwar spending. The WRL chart includes a graph, 'Funding the'Global War on Terror'' showing annual expenditures since 2001. For over 25 years “Where Your Income Tax Money Really Goes” hasbeen used by groups and people across the country to callattention to the disparity between military spending -- makingup over 50 percent of the Federal Funds budget -- and the fundingof crucial domestic programs. Many note the military’s share, which includes both past and present expenditures, as a guide todetermine how much they will refuse to send to the IRS innonviolent acts of defiance known as war tax resistance. The two-color flyer can be downloaded from www.warresisters.orgor ordered from the WRL office for 10¢ each (1-199), 7¢ each (200 - 499), 6¢ each (500+) plus 20% postage. Call 212-228-0450 for an exact amount.
