Dear All,
Below is an e-mail from Tracy Kelley, UMass student and the partner of Jason
Vassel, a Black UMass student who was a victim of a racial hate crime in
February. He defended himself against his attackers and is, nevertheless,
charged with counts that may land him in prison if he is deemed guilty.
See the "justice for Jason" link for more information and read Tracy's message
about organizing around the next court date on Tuesday [April 15th].

Good evening everyone, I hope everyone has had ample time to take a
breather from the frequent hard work and organizing around Justice for
Jason--I know everyone has been so supportive and helpful regarding these
matters. However, the quest for justice is still ongoing and we need to
pull back together, in considering another court date is approaching--a very
important date. Jason's case is now in the Superior Court system--the
stakes are still very high, regardless of his recent lessened charges--as he
now faces 2 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (possible 10
years in prison) versus attempted murder, although he is the victim. The
next court date details are as follows:
Tuesday April 15th, 2pm
Hampshire Superior Court
15 Gothic Street
Northampton Ma
Please make every effort to attend the Justice for Jason emergency meeting
to ensure that justice will be obtained! The meeting is this Thursday at
8pm in the SGA office (420 student union) and will be focused on carpooling,
petition signing efforts, and planning/updates for the campaign.
Peace,
tracy kelley
