Guided Tour of Abolition Era Florence with Steve Strimer and Linda Ziegenbein

Saturday, September 15, 10:00 am leaving from the Sojourner Truth Statue, corner of Park and Pine Streets


 
Sites visited on the tour include 


the Pine Grove where Sojourner Truth, William Lloyd Garrison, Wendell Phillips and others spoke during and after the days of the Northampton Association of Education and Industry

the Nonotuck Silk Dam where Lydia Maria Child and David Lee Child processed sugar beets as an alternative to slave grown sugar cane

the site of David Ruggles Watercure--Ruggles was New York City’s most daring Underground Railroad hero who aided over 600 fugitives to freedom including Frederick Douglass

the home of Underground Railroad agents Austin and Fidelia Ross, site included in National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom soon to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places

the homes of Sojourner Truth, Samuel L. Hill, Frances and Hall Judd, Hiram Wells, James Dunn Atkins and Elisha Hammond all built within the five years following the end of the Northampton Association in 1846.
