WORKERS IN RUSSIA
7:30pm, Webster Hall (located on the southwest corner of the quad),
Amherst College, Rts 116 & 9, Amherst. Elizabeth Vladeck will speak about
workers rights and union organizing in Russia. Vladeck went to law school at
Columbia. She spent last year in Kaliningrad, working with union organizers
and advocating for workers rights under WTO treaty law. The talk will no
doubt be illuminating for any students of Russian who are interested in
social activism, and anyone who wants to know what life in Russia is like
today for ordinary citizens and workers. Info: Jeff,

U S POLITICS: TIME FOR A LEFT TURN?
7pm, Pioneer Valley AFL-CIO, 640 Page Boulevard, Springfield
(732-7970). Is it time for a U-turn in US politics? Does the declining
popularity of the Bush gang, and Democratic control of Congress, mean that
people are finally seeing through the right wing lies, and ready for real
change? Democratic Socialists of America National Political Committee member
David Knuttunen will make a brief presentation about DSA's Economic Justice
Agenda, with plenty of time after for discussion and exchange of ideas.
DSA's Economic Justice Agenda is designed to be a progressive program that
is aggressive without being "pie-in-the-sky", something to agitate and
organize around in the coming months as the election looms - and hopefully
after, once a Democratic President takes office. Info: David Knuttunen,
