Reserve Your Seat Now! Join Western Mass. Nurses and their Possible
Patients – that’s all of us, folks – on a free bus trip to the Legislative
Hearing on House Bill 2059, the Patient Safety Act. A hearing on the bill
has been scheduled before the Joint Committee on Public Health on Wednesday
October 24
The Patient Safety Act (H.2059) would dramatically improve hospital
care by having the Massachusetts Department of Public Health set a safe
limit on the number of patients assigned to a nurse and adjust such staffing
ratios based on patient needs. It also bans mandatory overtime and includes
initiatives to increase nursing faculty and nurse recruitment. More info at
www.protectmasspatients.org. During the last legislative session, the House
of Representatives passed a similar bill by 133-20. The Senate did not get
to vote on it.
(Without busloads of supporters there, the hospital administrators
and lobbyists will take all 500 seats in Gardner Auditorium.)
Where do you want to catch the bus – Pittsfield, North Adams,
Greenfield, Northampton (Pot Pourri Plaza), or Chicopee (Plantation Inn
across from MassPike Springfield Exit 6)? Depending on how people sign-up,
buses leave at 8:30am or 9am. Return from State House at 3pm.
Please reserve your seat now so we can start planning the bus routes
