First, John Gormally, the new owner of WGGB-TV abc40, declined to accept the
pre-existing contract with the Broadcast & Engineering Employees CWA Local
51019 ("NABET Local 19") and used that opportunity to lay some people off
without regard to seniority, including long-time news photographer and union
Secretary/Treasurer Jimmy Brassard. The union has filed several Unfair Labor
Practice complaints against Gormally Broadcasting LLC with the National
Labor Relations Board.

Now, we have learned that Managing Editor Dave Madsen is circulating a
petition to de-authorize the Union. He and another member attempted this in
July but their efforts failed; let's help Local 19 make sure to repeat that
result. Please send an email to mailto:dmadsen at wggb.sbgnet.com and cc
mailto:jgormally at wggb.com and mailto:nabetcwa51019 at yahoo.com. Here’s a
suggestion:

Dear Mr. Madsen,

I am concerned to hear that you are involved in an effort to bust or weaken
NABET Local 19, the Union which represents you and most of the other
employees at WGGB abc40. If you continue, I will have no choice but to turn
off abc40 and boycott its advertisers. My organization has also pledged to
stand by our Brothers and Sisters at WGGB abc40 if they hold informational
demonstrations in front of the station and its advertisers.

I am asking that you work with the Union and encourage the new owner to
bargain a fair contract for its members.
