Sorry -- I didn't realize, from the letter, that the show was cut in half. Yes, I support your efforts to keep to the current allotted time slot. Please let me (and others) know how to best support you in this effort.

Hi all. With all due respect for your good intentions, the fact of the matter is the WFCR's offer actually reduces Tertulia's airtime by half (from 4 to 2 hrs) --this is not acceptable at all! This is particularly problematic because neither listeners nor producers have done anything that grants the radio management to terminate it. Their arguments however are based on "lack of funding" for sustaining it, not lack of listening audience or production capacity. The voices of Latino representatives who have met with the WFCR's administrators were very clear in our stand: We want Tertulia on the air as it has been over the years: not one minute less!

Could you join our voices?

Dear Listener to Tertulia,

Thank you for contacting WFCR with your concerns about the program "Tertulia." We always welcome listener comments, and appreciate hearing your thoughts.

I am writing to let you know about some new developments: “Tertulia” will continue to be broadcast on Sunday nights from 8:00 to 10:00. We recognize that “Tertulia” has served the Latino community well for many years, and we are pleased to be able to allocate some resources to keep it on the air. It will continue to be the mix of music, talk and pre-produced features you have come to know.
The first hour of “Tertulia” has always been the most popular, with the majority of listeners tuning in between 8:00 and 10:00 PM, so the new schedule for “Tertulia” will keep it on the air during its own “prime time.”
In addition, WFCR will be taking two other steps to increase its service to the Latino community. First, we will add a bilingual reporter to our News Department. He or she will be based in Springfield and cover stories throughout the region, but will also be assigned to focus special attention on the Latino community.
Also, we will be adding a new program, “Epicentro Político,” at 10:00 on Sunday nights. Its producers describe it as “a groundbreaking national Spanish-language radio program focusing on news analysis and political debate [featuring] interviews with Latino members of Congress, roundtable discussions with prominent journalists and commentators, on-location reports from correspondents based in major U.S. cities, and in-depth conversations with Latino writers, actors, and musicians.” You can learn more about “Epicentro Politico” at www.epicentroradio. com/index. html
Because of your interest in “Tertulia” and WFCR, I am letting you know about all of this before we inform the general public and the press.
Thank you again for contacting us about this very important matter.
Helen Barrington
