ABOUT NEW WORLD THEATER
A program of the Fine Arts Center of the University of Massachusetts
Amherst, New WORLD Theater (NWT) is dedicated to producing
performance-based work by artists of color. NWT has redefined the role
of the arts in higher learning and has purposely blurred the lines
between professional and community, the arts and politics, scholarship
and activism. For more than two decades New WORLD Theater has
cultivated what has been described as the “new American audience,”
reflecting both onstage and in the audience the realities, visions,
dreams of disparate and intersecting communities.
