Dear Friends,
Below is a request to sign on to an ad in the Union News/Sunday Republican opposing the Bush Administration's military intent toward Iran, sponsored by Physicians for Social Responsibility. I really hope that you can sign on. Know that:
1. "Health care worker" means anybody that works in the healthcare industry, including secretaries, medical assistants, social workers, therapists of various sorts, consultants, administrators, etc.
2. Though we are in desperate need for $$, if you cannot give, or can give less than $50, please sign anyway.
3. Please print a copy and pass it out in your office for signatures/$$.
4. Please feel free to foreward this to all healthcare friends/associates with your personal endorsement.
5. We would like to have it back by mid- September. We have 35 names and about $700 so far after a very lackadaisical effort due to summer vacations. We are going full steam now.
6. We hope to do more work in the future, and we will take seriously your wish to get on the mailing list.
Thanks and best wishes to you. Marty

Dear Healthcare Worker,

Many of us in healthcare are very concerned about the violence and destruction in our world, particularly in the Middle East.

We of the local Physicians for Social Responsibility chapter are working to place an advertisement opposing possible war against Iran in the Union News. We think that it is an important way to urge further Congressional action to prevent military attack that could impact millions and affect generations to come.

Here is the text of the ad, which has already appeared in the Congressional Quarterly:

IF YOU LIKE WAR IN IRAQ YOU'LL LOVE WAR ON IRAN.

CONGRESS MUST NOT ALLOW THE PRESIDENT TO ATTACK IRAN.

An ominous pattern of provocative words and acts from the White House points to a new war: a "preventive" strike on Iran.

"All options are on the table," says the Bush Administration. Does that include a nuclear

option? Yes, they have refused to rule out using nuclear weapons.

Nuclear or not, the fallout from this attack will be catastrophic. Iran is three times larger than Iraq. It has vast resources and intense national pride. It can wreak havoc on oil markets. It can retaliate against Israel or the Gulf States. In Iraq and Afghanistan, 175,000 U.S. soldiers could be the victims of a surge of anger at America.

But doesn't Iran refuse to talk? That is White House fiction. Two serious offers from the Iranian leadership have been rejected out of hand by the White House.

No one wants a nuclear-armed Iran. The reality is that bombing Iran will likely strengthen the hard-liners' hand and ensure that Iran will one day become a nuclear state.

The American people want diplomacy, not another war. Four out of five Americans favor direct talks with Iran. Congress must make the White House listen to the people.

If you would like to become a signatory to the ad (your name would appear as a sponsor) please sign below and return this to Physicians for Social Responsibility
