This Friday Night Salsa dance is to benefit our collective Center for the
Arts Project – Holyoke, which mission to build a community arts campus at El
Mercado that offers arts-music-theater education programs and contemporary
art exhibitions, providing services and resources for individual artists
throughout Holyoke, and beyond. CENA is where the community can create, see,
support, and learn about different artistic disciplines and promises to
enhance the South Holyoke neighborhood, assist in the revitalization of Main
Street Holyoke, and bring resources to the area. This space will also serve
as an anchor to a network of programming and educational opportunities
related to collective economic practices and micro-entrepreneurship
development, in conjunction with other community institutions or

de Holyoke
Este baile Viernes de Salsa es un beneficio para el proyecto colectivo
Centro de Artes de Holyoke el cual planifica en desarrollar un espacio
artístico en El Mercado donde ofreceríamos programas educacionales en las
artes, música, teatro, poesía y tendremos una galería para exposiciones de
arte. También proyectamos proveer y compartir servicios y recursos para
grupos de artistas como para individuales de Holyoke y áreas adyacentes. CENA
será donde la comunidad venga a aprender, enseñar, ver, apoyar y a exponer
las diferentes disciplinas y promete en abrir espacios creativos en el Sur
de Holyoke y apoyar la renovación de Main Street y atraeremos recursos a la
misma. Este espacio servirá como motor gestor de oportunidades
educacionales y de programas relacionados a prácticas para el desarrollo

The *Gonzalez Bros*. is a modern Latin-Jazz/Caribbean ensemble headlined by
brothers, Rene and Ahmed Gonzalez. The group features old-style "salsa
dura" music, mixed with the creativity of jazz and fresh ideas of today's
younger generations.

*AHMED GONZALEZ* (Co-Band Leader, Flute, Vocals, Percussion)
Ahmed Gonzalez has been a flutist for over 12 years, focusing on
Latin-American musical styles, classical music, and American Jazz. A student
of Sue Kurian (herself a student of the great French flutist, Jean-Pierre
Rampal), Ahmed developed a strong flute foundation in many styles, making
him a versatile performer. Ahmed has recorded in numerous records, performs
regularly with 4 bands in the Western MA and Hartford, CT area
(Komboloko, *Criollo
Clasico, Banda Criolla* (http://Lilor.tripod.com <http://lilor.tripod.com/>),
*MarKamusic* (http://www.markamusic.com), Victor Sterlings' Jazz Project),
and is currently promoting his own new group, The Gonzalez Bros. He has also
performed alongside conga great Giovanni Hidalgo, folk singer Roy Brown,
Puerto Rican rock figure Tito Auger, and in the prestigious Heineken Jazz
Jam Series in Puerto Rico, University of Puerto Rico, Yale University,
Princeton University, University of Massachusetts-Bright Moments Festival,
University of Hartford, Casa Aboy Cultural Center (PR), Puerto Rican
Institute of Culture, Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico.

*RENE GONZALEZ:* (Co-Band Leader, Vocals, Drums, Electric Bass)
Rene Gonzalez has been a multi-percussionist, focusing on Afro-Cuban-Puerto
Rican music styles since the age of 9. Beginning studies in drums with his
father at the age of 6, Rene studied Rock and Funk. He began an early
apprenticeship with noted Puerto Rican percussionist Freddie Moreno in
Timbales, Bongos, Congas, and Latin percussion until the age of 24.
Enrolling at the University of Massachusetts' Music Department, Rene studied
straight-ahead jazz, big band jazz, and rudimental studies with acclaimed
concert percussionist Peter Tanner and Berklee Drumset teacher, John Ramsay
(himself a student of Alan Dawson). Since his undergraduate days, Rene has
begun an independent apprenticeship on electric bass, developing his ability
on the instrument and performing with numerous groups on that instrument as
well.
Rene has recorded timbales, congas, bongos, drums, and electric bass on
numerous records spanning various styles and bands, and has performed
alongside conga great Giovanni Hidalgo, folk singer Roy Brown, Puerto Rican
rock figure Tito Auger, and in the prestigious Heineken Jazz Jam Series in
