"NO TORTURE IN OUR NAME! DAY"

On Tuesday, 10/17/06, at about 9:30am, President Bush will be signing the Military Commissions Act into law.

Torture will be legal. Habeas Corpus will be suspended. Evidence will be allowed in court that is hearsay, secret, or extracted by torture.

No more due process. No more presumption of innocence. No more respect for the Geneva Conventions and International Law.

Please Join Us in Northampton:

Tuesday at 9:00am in front of Broadside Books on Main St

Tuesday at 5:30pm at the corner of Main and King St

Or organize a protest in your community!

“Can’t the United States see that when we allow someone to be tortured by our agents, it is not only the victim and the perpetrator who are corrupted, not only the ‘intelligence’ that is contaminated, but also everyone who looked away and said they did not know, everyone who consented tacitly to that outrage so they could sleep a little safer at night, all the citizens who did not march in the streets by the millions to demand the resignation of whoever suggested, even whispered, that torture is inevitable in our day and age, that we must embrace its darkness?”
Ariel Dorfman, “Are We Really So Fearful?”
