[Antiracism] Stop the Repression in Oaxaca! IAC Statement

STOP THE REPRESSION IN OAXACA IMMEDIATELY !

The U.S.-based International Action Center condemns the criminal attacks 
that the government of Gov. Ulises Ruiz Ortiz and President Vicente Fox are 
committing against the people of Oaxaca, more specifically against the 
Popular Assembly of the People of Oaxaca (APPO).

We denounce the murders, the arbitrary detentions, the use of tanks, 
helicopters, teargas and heavily armed police to suppress the just demands 
of the Oaxaquan people, including the murders of 19 people so far, among 
them, U.S. Indymedia journalist Brad Will, and the detention of 120 people. 
We also denounce the attack against the students and their families in and 
near the Autonomous University of Benito Juárez.

We also blame the government of the United States for its complicity by 
silence regarding this great crime. This is no surprise because it is the 
same government which has declared a war against the Mexican people, whether 
in Mexico or in its Diaspora, by approving 2.2 billion dollars to construct 
an apartheid wall between the two countries. The United States is the true 
culprit in this situation through the robbery of the Mexican people, which 
began with the theft of their land and has continued with economic 
impositions (policies) like NAFTA which have destroyed the economy that 
sustained thousands of families, forcing them into exile and particularly 
into emigrating to the U.S.

The people of Oaxaca have the inalienable and legitimate right to defend 
themselves from this barbarism perpetrated by the government, its police and 
paramilitary forces.

Therefore, we demand an immediate end to the repression, the immediate 
release of all the detainees, the withdrawal of the Preventive Federal 
Police and the punishment of all in charge of this crime against humanity. 
Therefore we join our voices to those from Mexico and the entire world that 
demand the resignation of Governor Ulises Ruiz. We support the call from 
APPO calling for finding an immediate exit from the crisis through dialogue 
and not through military action.

At the same time we send our firm solidarity to the people of Oaxaca from 
the heart of the empire and will do everything in our hands to disseminate 
news of this horrible crime so that the international pressure will become a 
generating force of solidarity for peace with social justice. - Friday,

¡ALTO INMEDIATO A LA REPRESIÓN EN OAXACA!*

El Centro de Acción Internacional, basado en los Estados Unidos, condena la 
criminal arrementida que está cometiendo el gobierno de Ulises Ruiz Ortiz y 
Vicente Fox contra el pueblo de Oaxaca y más concretamente contra la 
representación de ese pueblo expresada en la Asamblea Popular, APPO.

Denunciamos los asesinatos, las detenciones arbitrarias, el uso de 
tanquetas, helicópteros, gases lacrimógenos y policía fuertemente armada 
para reprimir los justos reclamos oaxaqueños. Incluyendo en estas bajas a 
las 19 personas asesinadas hasta ahora, entre ellas al reportero 
estadounidense de Indymedia Brad Will y a l at s 120 personas detenid at s. 
Denunciamos asimismo el ataque al studiantado y a sus familias en los 
alrededores y predios de la Universidad Autónoma Benito Juárez.

Acusamos también al gobierno de los Estados Unidos de complicidad en este 
gran crimen por permanecer en silencio. Lo que no es de extrañar pues es el 
mismo gobierno que ha declarado una guerra contra el pueblo mexicano tanto 
en México como en su diáspora, al aprobar 2.2 miles de millones de dólares 
para construir una pared de apartheid entre los dos pueblos.

Estados Unidos es el verdadero culpable de esta situación por su robo al 
pueblo mexicano que comenzara con la toma de sus tierras y se ha continuado 
con imposiciones económicas como el NAFTA que ha destruido la economía que 
sostenía a millares de familias forzándolas al exilio particularmente hacia 
los EEUU.

El pueblo de Oaxaca tiene el legítimo derecho a su defensa ante esta 
barbarie perpetrada por el gobierno y sus fuerzas policiales y 
paramilitares.

Exigimos por tanto un inmediato alto a la represión, la inmediata liberación 
de tod at s l at s detenid at s, la retirada de la Policía Federal Preventiva y el 
castigo a todos los responsables de este crimen de lesa humanidad. Por lo 
tanto nos unimos a las voces de México y del mundo entero que demandan la 
renuncia del gobernador Ulises Ruiz. Respaldamos el llamado de la APPO para 
que se encuentre una salida inmediata por el diálogo y no a través de la 
acción militar.

Asimismo enviamos nuestra firme solidaridad al pueblo oaxaqueño desde el 
corazón del imperio y haremos todo lo que esté en nuestras manos por 
divulgar las noticias de tan horrendo crimen para que así la presión 
internacional sea una fuerza solidaria generadora de paz con justicia 
social.
