WHAT IS THE WORLD SOCIAL FORUM ANYWAY?

Under the banner of 'Another World is Possible', tens of thousands of
people, including community organizers, trade unionists, students/youth,
NGO's, and social movements, gather for a conference filled with dialogues,
workshops, debates, marches, rallies, and cultural events. Social Forums
are a form of movement building, not just a series of meetings.

The WSF was launched in Porto Alegre Brazil to discuss and strategize about
alternatives to the neo-liberal economic model that caters to multi-national
corporations, banks and the wealthy. This model has led to the suppression
of workers and human rights, a growing poverty/wealth divide, privatization
of schools and water, environmental degradation, and cutbacks in social
programs. (For the more detailed description of neo-liberalism contact
someone below.)

Since Porto Alegre, the WSF has taken place throughout the world, from
Europe to Asia to Africa and Latin America, as well as more localized social
forums such as Boston and New York. The first ever United States Social
Forum will take place in June 2007 in Atlanta. The current plan is for the
Western Ma forum to take place in Spring 2007.

WHY A WESTERN MASS. SOCIAL FORUM?-

- To build a more powerful and unified movement for social and
economic justice and sustainability in Western Massachusetts.

- To link local struggles and organize with the larger global
justice movement.

- To advance discussion, debate, understanding, common interests
and strategies for economic and social change.

- To celebrate, create and experience a bit of our visions of the
future

- To build awareness and mobilization for the first U.S. Social
Forum, June 27-July 1, 2007 in Atlanta. http://www.ussf2007.org/home.html
