Subject: "Kill the Indian Save the Man" (Movie trailer at bottom of page)
"The Canary Effect" is screening at the Tribeca Film Festival in April. It
should see limited release after that and then hopefully DVD in wide
release. There aren't too many documentaries on the American Indian
experience, we're here and we don't ride horses, wear loincloths, shoot bow
and arrows and live in teepees anymore. The silent, forgotten "minority".
"The Canary Effect, Kill the Indian Save the Man" a documentary directed by
Robin Davey and Yellow Thunder Woman, written by Davey (U.S.A.) - World
Premiere. This visually powerful documentary explores the horrific abuses
enacted on Native Americans throughout history, abuses which meet the U.N.'s
definition of genocide. Today, reservations rank in the bottom of the nation
for quality of life, and in the top for suicide. The Canary Effect forces us
to confront the uncomfortable legacy of history.
GET AWARE OF THE CANARY EFFECT
Dave and Davey and Thunder Woman
'The Canary Effect' marks the debut of the film making team Yellow Thunder
Woman and Robin Davey. With their movie they want to bring awareness and
understanding to the often misunderstood story of the Indigenous people of
America.
Yellow Thunder Woman is an artist, singer and film maker who was raised on
the Yankton Sioux and Rosebud Sioux reservations in South Dakota. Robin
Davey (of The Davey Brothers and legendary The Hoax) was born and raised in
southern England, he is a musician, producer and film maker. After crafting
music videos for his own band (signed to Dave Stewart's Artist Network in
2002, now to his Weapons of Mass Entertainment), he quickly started making a
name for himself as a director and has since made videos for Disney,
Paramount and Interscope Records.
What noone knew until now is that this movie was not only executively
produced by John Shanks but also by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics who
contributed his experience with setting up the financing and with the making
of films and documentaries from the very beginning of the project.
