[Antiracism] YOC and Allies Update

Hey to all of you invested in youth movements and undoing racism !

Youth Leadership in the Arts would like let you know we had a great
first event of the Youth of Color and Allies Networking Event on
December 8th in Northampton at the Center for the Arts and give a big
shout out for all of you who were able to make it out and grow this
network!

With youth of color and allies coming from across the valley there were
close to a hundred young people gathered in the space to identify 
experiences with racism. We had people representing organizations from Youth 
Build, Youth Leaders in Action and ARISE of Springfield, Teen Reasource 
Project, Nuestras Raices, Girls Inc. of Holyoke, Project 2050, RAICES and 
Community Partnerships for Social Change of Hampshire College, Video 
Vanguards, Get Up Get Down, Girls Eye View, Youth Action Coalition of 
Amherst, Pride Zone, YLA of Northampton and more!

Thanks to everyone who passed an email or a flyer or a word of mouth
to get this event off the ground. Special thanks for support from
Julius Ford, La VeraCruzana, Youth Action Coalition and the Alumni 
Fellowship of Community
Partnerships for Social Change.

youth organizers in action.

THE PURPOSE of Youth of Color and Allies Networking Events:
To bring together young people of color and allies, to come together and
build power, identify the source of our issues within our communities and
find solutions.

ACTION:
To gather every other month in communities around the valley where
youth of color and allies celebrate and creatively address community
issues in a safe environment and find common ground. For youth
programs around the valley to bring the event to their community and
adapt it for their . For example: We identified the issue of racism in
schools as the theme for the first gathering. What are your
experiences?

FOLLOW UP
Sponser an action in the months between networking events, where young
people can continue to come together and build alliances to create
change.
For example in the month of January YLA has created a survey that will be
distributed among other youth of color to begin to document the
problem of
racism. The information collected could be used in the future for a
public speak out or other actions.>
