Subject: See "Outlawed: Extraordinary Rendition, Torture..." In Northampton on Jan 5
Dear Amnesty and PVCAST friends:
Don’t miss two extremely poignant and informative films giving 3 first hand accounts of innocent people caught in America's “War on Terror”:
Outlawed: Extraordinary Rendition, Torture, and Disappearances
in the "War on Terror
and
Conversations with Moazzem Begg, former Guantanamo detainee
Friday, January 5, 2007at 7:00 PM .
These will be free screenings at the Community Room of the Media Education Foundation, 60 Masonic Street, Northampton, Massachusetts. Enter on the left side of the building, behind the Woodstar Cafe.
Outlawed: Extraordinary Rendition, Torture and Disappearances in the "War on " tells the stories of Khaled El-Masri and Binyam Mohamed, two men who have survived extraordinary rendition, secret detention, and torture by the U.S. government working with various other governments worldwide. "Outlawed" features relevant commentary from Louise Arbour, the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, U.S. President George W. Bush, Michael Scheuer, the chief architect of the rendition program and former head of the Osama Bin Laden unit at the CIA, and Condoleezza Rice, the U.S. Secretary of State. "Outlawed" which is a documentary produced by WITNESS and Amnesty International USA in association with 12 other groups worldwide, places the post-9/11 phenomenon of renditions and the "war on terror" in a human rights context and calls for action end these human rights abuses.
See also a video of the teleconference recently held at Mt. Holyoke College with Moazzem Begg, a British citizen who was held at Guantanamo Bay for two years without charge or trial. Those who participated in this teleconference came away deeply moved by the grace of this eloquent man who described his experience without bitterness while exposing the brutality and hypocrisy of our government run amuk.
