Greetings Friends,
Thank you to all who helped organize and/or participated in "The Struggle
Continues!" Dismantling Racism in the Valley, Organizing Summit on April 30th.
As I type folks are working to get the summit notes out as quickly as possible,
while also tying up inevitable loose ends like updating the database, etc.
Folks are also trying to balance the need/call for evaluation with the need/call
for next step planning - while taking momentum, communication, transparency and
timeliness into consideration.
To begin, we'd like to invite anyone who has a reflection to offer to
participate in the follow-up evaluation conversations (see below) which will
help lead us into the post-summit organizing/transition phase (also see below).
Tues, May 17th - 6:30-8:30pm (United Congregational Church of Holyoke, 395
High Street, Holyoke)
ORGANIZING EVALUATION MEETING (for summit organizers and those
interested in evaluating the organizing process)
Wed, May 18TH - 6:30-8:30pm (United Congregational Church of Holyoke, 395 High
Street, Holyoke)
COMMUNITY EVALUATION MEETING (for anyone in our outreach list,
summit attendee or not)
Thurs, June 2nd - 6:30-8:30pm (Proposed Date - Please respond with your
thoughts about this as well as propose a location)
TRANSITION & NEXT STEPS MEETING (for anyone who would like to
participate and take leadership in the network)
Please note:
1) We will serve dinner each night.
2) Though we have thought to create distinct evaluation spaces for those who
planned and those who participated, come to the meeting that best suits you.
3) We welcome folks to volunteer to co-facilitate the meetings. Please
contact Zawadi directly.
4) We welcome suggestions for format, agenda items, etc.
5) If neither of these dates work, we would be glad to arrange other times
to meet to discuss your feedback and ideas.
If you have concerns, suggestions, or questions about any of this, please
let us know.
Things to look out for soon include:
- Summit notes with guiding principles created at the end of the day
- Budget report (we may have some $$ left over for next steps, once we
collect proceeds from community auction, donations, pay outstanding bills etc.)
- Transition Meeting location & date (if June 2nd does not work)
- Online forum (so that conversation is not limited to meeting times, we may be
able to set this up)
- Contact lists of those in our outreach database. (R.S.V.P if you dont want
your information published)
Many have already begun to take the next steps mapped out by small
groups. Thanks for the great work and please keep us updated on progress.
About the listserve:
Please remember that messages posted to the antiracism at lists.hampshire.edu are
delivered to over 400 people. Folks have requested that we not overload each
other with information during this transitional phase.
Thank you very much for your consideration, and for all you do.
Sincerely,
Zawadi Nyong'o (Summit Coordinator)
Elaina Ellis (Assistant Coordinator)
Jo Comerford (AFSC/CPSC Partnership Mentor)
Sara Littlecrow-Russell (AFSC/CPSC Partnership Mentor)
Mary Bombardier (AFSC/CPSC Partnership Mentor)
