Greetings:
On April 30th of this year, 200 community leaders will gather in Holyoke to
network, strategize, collaborate, and strengthen and make visible the work of
anti-racist organizing and cross-cultural alliance building in the Valley. The
Struggle Continues! Dismantling Racism in the Valley: Organizing Summit is the
first large scale meeting of this kind for youth organizers, educators, local
activists, and community-based organizations. This historic event is supported
by a partnership between American Friends Service Committee of Western
Massachusetts, and the Office of Community Partnerships for Social Change at
Hampshire College.
At this moment when civil rights for immigrant community members are
threatened, after-school programs are defunded, University and college
administrations refuse to provide funding and staff to offer critical support to
students of color, student government officials find humor in the brutal legacy
of the Ku Klux Klan, and headlines repeatedly confirm that hate crimes are
happening in our own backyards, this gathering of activists and organizers is
crucial.
As you know, creating a positive environment takes the efforts of a whole
community. This summit is free to participants but costs money to put on,
naturally. Any amount you can contribute will be gratefully received. As a
co-sponsor, we will happily include you in the summit program unless you wish to
be anonymous.
Please know that your tax-exempt contribution will go directly to summit
costs: meals, transportation, honorariums for speakers and performers, and
outreach materials. In-kind donations of food or other materials are also
welcomed; please use the contact information on your reply form to communicate
about how you would like to be involved.
Thank you for your support!
Zawadi Nyong'o, Summit Coordinator, "The Struggle Continues!"
Mary Bombardier, Director, Community Partnerships for Social Change
Jo Comerford, Program Coordinator, American Friends Services Committee of
Western Massachusetts
