Hey Anti Racism Summit people and more,

>From a conversation in a workshop YLA faciliated called "Road Blocks to
Youth Organizers" last April at the Dismantling Racism in the Valley Summit,
YLA took the idea of creating a youth network and decided to plan an event
that would bring together youth of color and our allies...

come check it out and support us!....

We would like to invite you to an event YLA (Youth Leadership in the Arts)
is hosting. This is a monthly opportunity for youth of color and our allies
to network with each other about our experiences and work. We would like for
you to share what you and your group represents and does in your community.
We're planning a lot of different activities, such as an open-mic, dance,
games to get to know each other and our work, and building connections.

This first event is to kick off a rotating bimonthly event that will be
hosted
by youth programs and organizations to build a supportive youth network
between places like Northampton, Springfield, Holyoke, and Greenfield and
more! Maybe you'll want to host the next one!

We hope you can come together with us in Northampton for the first event!

YLA History
For more than a decade young leaders in YLA have identified and addressed
isssues that concern youth in their communities, such as racism, homophobia,
and poverty. For 10 years YLA sponsored retreats for youth across Western
Mass to come together annually for these purposes. Over and over again we
have heard young people say they to have a voice in local, regional,
statewide, national and international issues that affect them.
We are focused on collaborating with other youth initiatives and together
amplifying the voices of those least often asked for their perspectives,
young people of color.

Members of YLA have utilized a variety of strategies to address a range of
issues, including video, performance, and most recently radio production.
YLA sees the involvement of young people in finding solutions as crucial to
building heathier individuals and communities, and the arts as a powerful
way to communicate our perspective.
