This is an email list to facilitate league matches for the Magic league. If you are looking for a league match, simply e-mail MagicLeague@lists.hampshire.edu!
If you win a league match, you must report it here:
Regulation play starts on Wednesday, October 11th and ends at 11:59pm on Tuesday, October 31th. (There will likely be a period of playoffs after that point.) The league rules are listed below. Have fun!
You can only use the cards that you open, plus any number of basic lands. James can provide lands if needed. Decks must be at least 40 cards, with no maximum size. There is no trading. There is no four card limit; if you happen to open more than 4 copies of a card, you may play as many copies as you want.
Each week, you play up to 3 league matches (best 2 out of 3 games) against anyone else in the league. Schedule matches any time you want (using this e-mail list!) You get 2 points for a win, 1 point for a loss.
Matches beyond 3 in a given week count for tiebreaker points. You get 1 tiebreaker point for a win (tiebreaker points are 0.01 regulation point), 0 tiebreaker points for a loss, so extra matches never hurt you.
Please do not play the same person more than once in a given week. This rule encourages people to mingle within the league, and avoids the situation of two people playing all 9 regulation matches against each other.
When you play a match, it must be the same week for both players (Week 1, Week 2 or Week 3). For this reason it is good to keep track of which cards were added to your pool which week, in case you want to "go back" a week or two to play someone in a different week. If there is some question about which week match you're playing, agree in advance.
Everyone gets 5 Ixalan boosters to open at the start. At the end of each of the first two weeks, everyone gets to open another booster.
If you reach 3 regulation match losses (not tie-breakers), you instantly get to open another booster, even mid-week.
If you reach 4 regulation match losses (not tie-breakers), you instantly get to open another, even mid-week.
If you reach the end of regulation play without 4 match losses, well played! You still get your extra booster(s) at the end of regulation play.
Prizes will be determined based on registrations and announced before the end of the league.
All cards that you open (other than the ones in your deck) are in your sideboard. That means you could even build two different decks and swap them between games if you wanted, as long as you're only using cards from your booster packs (plus basic lands, of course).
If you have a rules question during a match and want an expert answer, there are magic judges available all the time here: http://chat.magicjudges.org/mtgrules.
If you are a first year student, you can get CEL-1 credit for participating in this league. Contact Ira for more information.
Pay James $25 before Wednesday, October 11th. James doesn't intend to make any profit, just cover costs. You don't need to be a Hampshire student to play, so feel free to invite friends.
TBD. Here's an example of a previous leagues' prize support:
One booster for each player who completed all nine of their matches in time.
One for each player in the top 4.
One for each player in the top 2.
One more for the winner of the League.
