Hello everyone!
Yes, that is correct, do not adjust your view box! We will be starting our
Spring series this Saturday. At 8:00PM. In the East Lecture Hall. As is the
norm.
This is after the movie screening, of course.
This weeks movie is the Fritz Lang classic, Metropolis. This is, in many ways,
the grandfather of science fiction in cinema. This Black and White masterpiece
is a marvel of the German Expressionist era of film, where our beloved
Nosferatu was born, and pushed the limits of what was possible in film in the
late 20's.
The general idea behind the movie is that an amazing city runs due to the
efforts of two halves, the working class and the thinking, ruling class. The
working class lives and works beneath the city, while the rest rule from above.
The movie enters at a crucial juncture when representatives from both sides have
different ideas on where things should go. Then robots get involved.
After this, we will then watch the first episode of our new series. Which will
we will screen no earlier then 10:15PM, for those of you not inclined to stay
for the movie, this is when you want to show up for the first episode.
Whats the series? Drum Roll Please...
The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.
Starring Bruce Campbell of Evil Dead fame, this is a western/sci-fi with
emphasis on comedy and action. IMDB has this general plot summary:
"Hired by local robber barons, Harvard Law Graduate Brisco County, Jr. searches
for the members of the infamous John Bly gang, the same men who killed his
father, a famous marshal and western legend. Accompanied by his one-time rival
and fellow bounty hunter Lord Bowler, Brisco rides through the West trying to
bring his father's killers to justice. Along the way, he encounters mysterious
golden orbs with strange abilities and colorful characters who help or hinder
his mission as he hunts down the Bly gang one by one"
It was a close fight for finish for series choice between this and Carnivale,
but many voted in favor of a slightly less dark and drama related series.
Look forward to seeing you all this Saturday!
