Welcome back. Hope that list related spam hasn't been pissing people off too
much.
The month of February will be a not-too-bombastic one for Excalibur screenings.
Since someone else has reserved ASH from 8-10 Fridays (He'll be showing the
well-recieved miniseries "Band of Brothers," which I, for one, plan to watch),
screenings for this coming month will be more in the Midnight Movie vein, as
we'll start at 10ish (Oh well, Ten O' Clock Movie just doesn't have the same
panache.)
In that spirit, our first screening will be the classic horror film "The
Abominable Dr. Phibes", starring Vincent Price. This is regarded as one of
Price's best, as he plays the eponymous Phibes, who is out to exact chilling
and creative vengeance against a group of doctors.
After Phibes (11:45ish), we'll begin what we believe is a new feature for
Excalibur screenings: a serial! That's right, starting this Friday and
hopefully continuing for 11 subsequent screenings, we'll be showing 1939's
"The Phantom Creeps," with Bela Lugosi. This serial deals with a Mad Scientist
(Lugosi), and his attempts to control the world, as well as the Good Guys who
try to thwart him. It promises to be a fun and interesting experience. I have
it on authority that there's a giant robot. Don't worry, we won't keep you too
late, either. Each episode only runs about 20 minutes.
After February and the conclusion of B. O. B., we should get back to our 2 movie
(and a serial), start at 8 schedule. We already have several cool screenings
lined up, and we're batting around ideas for a special event or two this
semester as well.
We're glad to be back, and I hope to see you there this Friday!
