RAICES:
An organization for students who are interested in Latino culture and heritage
and are concern with Latino issues: sexism, homophobia, passing, racism, and
classism within the Latinos community in the United States. RAICES strives to promote the identity and unity of Hampshire College’s Latino students through intellectual, cultural, academic, and social growth and to increase their visibility and involvement in campus and community activities.
RAICES GOALS/PURPOSE:
-Provided a forum where students create a dialogue concerning sexism,
homophobia, passing, racism, and classism within the Latinos community
-Create a space where the Latino culture and heritage can become visible and
the Hampshire community can participate
-To provided break stereotypes concerning the Latino community in Hampshire.
RAICES is a vital group for the Hampshire community because of is lack of
Latino students. RAICES is a place where Latinos could express their views and
opinions. It provides a healthy forum for discussions on racism and classism
in society. It also provides events to educate the Hampshire Community and its
members about their history in the United States.
